This piece is a reinterpretation of CryptoPunk #2560, commissioned by its owner, renowned French CryptoPunk collector Dan Polko.

The initial CryptoPunk 24x24 image, adorned with colorful abstract patterns, undergoes a transformative process involving multiple iterations of resolution doubling and adding chromatic noise at each stage. This is done using a legacy lossiness feature of the GIF format, resulting in noise grains of varying sizes—1, 2, 4, and 8 pixels wide. This deliberate method results in a 2160x2160 high-resolution picture, which is best viewed on a large screen, where the rich tapestry of pixels can be fully appreciated.

The composition is a hypnotic, looping animation that showcases a dissociation of structure and color. Each frame of the animation reveals a kaleidoscope of colored squares, reminiscent of minuscule artworks within a grand mosaic.

It perpetuates and furthers an existing approach in some of EDOUARD's works, in which pixels are not just the building blocks of the image, but are celebrated as essential elements. After all, pixel literally means picture element. The artist calls this concept Pixel Field because in the same way that Color Field painting treats color as the primary subject, Pixel Field emphasizes the pixel as the fabric of the artwork. The pixels are brought to the forefront, no longer minuscule elements to be minimized and assembled to provide the illusion of continuity, but vibrant, critical components of the visual experience.
